He was born on September 2, 1950, in Charleston WV, to his late parents, Elmer and Mary Francis Zimmerman; brother, John Zimmerman, who also preceded him in death.
Surviving is his spouse of 48 years, Marilyn Wilson Zimmerman; sons, Mark Zimmerman (Jill) and family, Travis Zimmerman (Andrea) and family; and his beloved miniature dachshund, Lexie, who rarely left Tom’s side.
Thomas served as a Corpsman in the Navy where he earned his MLT certification. He served in Vietnam in that capacity and later at the Naval Air Station, Marietta, Georgia, until his discharge.
His career included working at CAMC as Medical Laboratory Technician, Police office for the City of Charleston and finally as a control room operator for E.I. DuPont until his retirement.
One of Tom’s greatest loves was music - he played in a band called the Barons in the 70’s-and toured extensively until he enlisted in the Navy. This love of music followed for his entire life.
Tom derived great pleasure in watching his sons play basketball, which began when they were in kindergarten and continued until they graduated from Riverside High School.
Tom enjoyed multiple hobbies such as camping, skiing and scuba diving.
