Peggy McNamara passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 14, 2015. She graduated with a BA in Social Studies from Caldwell College in 1961. She was married to Vincent W. McNamara on December 29, 1962.
She raised her family in Old Bridge, N.J. and Pittsgrove, N.J. and was very active in St. Thomas the Apostle Church and School. She was an elementary school teacher at Our Lady of Victory in Sayreville prior to working sixteen years at PSE&G in Salem, NJ.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s of the Pines Church in Manahawkin and an adoration member, a participant of the “dusting Angels” and the Martha/Mary Design Ministries.
She was an avid lover of golf, tennis and mah jongg. She was known to make long distance road trips to see her children and grandchildren in various states. She was a knitter and made gorgeous knitted items for everyone she loved.
She is predeceased by her husband Vin, in 2003, and survived by three siblings, Kate Bruey (her trusted travel companion), her twin sister Annie Richards and her brother Mike Phelan.
She was an amazing mother to five children who gave her a run for her money: Kathleen and spouse Jihad Mirza, Mike and spouse Pam, Peter and spouse Susan, Jeff and spouse Tara, and Bill.
She was a beloved grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Hannah, Molly, Alex, Connor, Mary Kate, Emmett, Casey, Sean, Kellyn, Jackson and Kendall.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on April 30, 2015 at 1 pm at St. Mary’s of the Pines Church. Cremation is private. Arrangements were handled by the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ 08050
