Anita Bowman

Anita Bowman, 88, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away unexpectly on Monday, January 23, 2023. She was predeceased by her beloved husband James. Anita is survived by her loving children, James Bowman Jr. and his wife Audra and Cindi Bowman, her cherished grandchildren, Tyler and Jaime and her two sisters, Marilyn Turnamian and her husband Gary and Ernestine Medeck. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews. Anita was born and raised in Newark, NJ and graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. She started her working career with the Department of Navy. She also worked for Bamberger’s as a retail sales associate and A-1 Employment Agency as a bookkeeper. Anita worked as an Assistant Treasurer at Roselle Savings & Loan from where she retired after many years of service. She and James resided in Fanwood, NJ where they raised their children. She moved permanently to the family summer home in Manahawkin in 1992 after spending summers there since 1980 . Anita was a volunteer at the Stafford Library. She enjoyed going to exercise classes with her friends and their monthly luncheons. Her “street girls” monthly get togethers were also an event she cherished. She loved to travel and enjoyed family vacations to Hawaii, Italy, Alaska, and many other destinations. Spending time with family and friends was among her happiest times. A visitation will be held Monday, January 30, 2023 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at St Mary of the Pines Catholic Church, 100 Bishop Lane, Manahawkin, NJ. Committal Service will be private.
