David Stewart, 78, of Waretown, NJ formerly of Washington Township, NJ passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Nancy, his loving children; Kathleen Sisco, David Stewart Jr. and his wife Tonya and Jean Marie Stewart and her partner Lisa Robertson, and his cherished grandchildren; Scott Stewart, Brett Stewart and Nicole Sisco. His brother Robert Stewart as well as his brothers-in-law, Sal Tuzzeo and George Tuzzeo and his sister-in-law Marielaina Mullin and her husband Dale, his many nieces and nephews and his many childhood friends also survive David.

David worked as the Director of Operations for Foodtown. He then went on to own two IGA supermarkets, one in Saddle Brook, NJ and the other in Garfield, NJ.

Upon retirement, he and his beloved Nancy moved to Waretown, NJ. David was an active man; he lived his life to the fullest. While living in Waretown, he was on a bowling league and a bocce league. He was a member of the Glee Club and will always be remembered as their most jovial member. He was an avid Mets and Jets fan. He was a reader. He enjoyed travelling. Amusement Parks brought a smile to his face as well as ice cream. He enjoyed listening to the 50’s DooWop. Being near the Ocean brought him such peace. He had many fond memories of trips to Chincoteague, VA. with his dear friends

As much as he enjoyed being involved in his many interests, his greatest joy in life was his family. He loved and cherished his family above all else. His all-time favorite moment was when he would sing Elvis’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” to the love of his life, Nancy. He was a faithful man, to God, to his Nancy and to his family. He will be greatly missed by all.

A Memorial Mass will be held 11:15am Saturday, March 27 at the Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River Rd, Upper Saddle River, NJ, with a 1:00 interment to follow at George Washington Cemetery, Paramus, NJ

His family will always remember him as being a most generous person, giving to many charities. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s name may be sent to a charity of your choice.

The service will be lived streamed for anyone who is unable to attend. The link for the live stream is as follows: https://www.churchof presentation.org/funeral-ministry/

Dear Kathleen and family:

I remember spending a bit of time at your home in my late teenage years and Mr. Stewart being one of the nicest Dads of all my friends. He always treated me and the rest of our group of friends very nicely. I'm sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to you all and anyone who loved him.

Dear Nancy and Family,
Our deepest condolences on the loss of your dear David. David was always smiling, jovial and full of fun. He must be telling jokes and bringing laughter to the angels in Heaven right now, just as he always did with the Greenbriar residents. May David rest in eternal peace in God's loving arms and may God bring comfort to his beloved wife, Nancy at this most difficult time. With love to all the Stewart family,
Louise and Robert Beck

I was able to go to the mass in Upper Saddle River for Dave and it was not shocking to see all the friends he hade come there. It was a beautiful service and Dave would have liked the young man who sang with such a great voice.
Dave and I would speak almost every day sometimes about things that happened in the past and laugh - like when we got caught in the second show doing the Four Seasons tribute - Dave and I had black shirts from the previous set we did together - we volunteered to move the furniture to the other side but could not return in time to change to white shirts for the number- so we went on with Mike DeCicco and Bill Shalk dressed in a different color, but no one noticed! We would go to the casino together and play the tables always having a good time win or lose. Many people do not know what a good man ,not just in his words ,he was ,but in his deeds! When I had a procedure in MSK in NYC Dave and Nancy offered to drive me home and they did !! I learned something from Dave and that is it doesn’t make a man less Maucho to say God Bless at the end of your conversation - so for all you added to my life Dave- “God Bless”!

Dear Nancy and family - Dave was such a wonderful person. He was indeed a marvelous member of the Glee Club along with Nancy.
He had a tremendous ability of always making others happy and to feel good about themselves. These are beautiful gifts that Dave possessed and that he shared so willingly with countless others. Warmest regards - Walter and Pamela Boright

Nancy and family,
Rick and I are so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. He lit up a room with his smile, booming voice and laugh. I first met Mr. Stewart when I worked at Foodtown in River Edge in the 70's. We always wanted everything to be perfect when he came to the store because we cared about his approval. Life made a circle and I reconnected with Dave through square dancing in my adult years. He was a great dancer who always brought laughter to a square. It was always clear how much he loved Nancy, his forever partner in a square and in life. We are keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers. May memories touch your heart and bring you comfort.

Stewart family, I heard the news today of your dads passing. Immediately, I was deeply saddened. I am so sorry for your loss. I often wondered how he and his family were doing. I had not seen or talked to him in close to thirty years since I had worked for him through high school and college in the late 80's and early 90's. I am forever grateful to him for the many life and business lessons he taught me that I still use today as I am still working in the food industry all these years later. I send my condolences to the family, I hope you are all well and safe through this difficult time .
Thank You and May God Bless You.
Rest In Peace Big D.
