Gloria Irving

She is survived by her husband Bill Irving, her devoted son Ted Mitchell, her precious grandchildren; Jadyn, Sydney and Logan Mitchell and her loving sister and brother-in-law Marian and Joseph Sorrentino. Gloria is also survived by her cherished niece and nephew Jan and Alycia Sorrentino as well as her extended family and friends.

Gloria was a graduate of Southern Regional High School. She attended Holy Name School of Nursing in Teaneck, NJ, graduating as a Registered Nurse. Upon graduating, she worked at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, NJ. She also taught Nursing classes at Ocean County Vocational School in Toms River, NJ. Upon her retirement from Nursing, Gloria went on to open Gloria’s Florist in Waretown, NJ.

She was an amazing woman; her heart was always open to help people, especially in the hard times of their life. She was a fighter; she battled and beat her first Cancer diagnosis 25 years ago. That same strength helped her to battle her next Cancer diagnosis, she fought to the end and that fighting spirit is what her son and sister believes gave them extra time to spend with her.

She loved Nature and being in her garden. Her family and friends will always remember her creativity. Her creative ability caused her to open her florist shop. Her creations and flower pieces made everyone who received them smile.

Family and friends will always remember her Christmas Eve dinners; she put so much of herself into them. She enjoyed cooking and her meals were enjoyed by all. She was a gracious and generous host.

Gloria was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2022 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 11:00AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ with the committal service to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Beachview Ave., Manahawkin, NJ.
