Lorenza Basile

Lorenza Basile, 84, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Lorenza was born in Newark, NJ. While attending West Side High School in Newark, she met the love of her life, Gino. They were high school sweethearts and that love story continued for the next 61 years. In 1973, they moved to Whippany, NJ where they raised their two daughters. They resided in Whippany for 31 years, moving to Manahawkin in 2003 upon Gino’s retirement.

Lorenza was an unintended woman ahead of the times. She longed to become a mother, but her fate was to become one later in life. Until that time came, she worked for Dunn & Bradstreet and Hahne & Company Department Store in accounts payable. When her first daughter was born, Lorenza devoted her life to raising her children. The times spent with her daughters and her grandchildren were priceless.

Lorenza was a wonderful cook and warm host, everyone loved being at her home. She enjoyed music and always had her own special, personal style. Lorenza enjoyed going to Atlantic City with her sisters. Family meant everything to her.

She was pre-deceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Sebastian and Angela Italiano and her brothers-in-laws, Richard Tenore, Joseph Basile & Fred Assenza.

Lorenza is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Gino, her cherished daughters, Diane Basile and her husband John Suszko and Gina Patelsky and her husband Brett, her precious grandchildren, Luke, Cora and Ava. She is also survived by her sisters, Catherine Tenore and Domenica Opalewski, her sister-in-law, Grace Assenza and several loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday Dec 4, 2020 at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on 11:30 at St. Mary of the Pines 100 Bishop Lane, Manahawkin with burial to follow at General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
