Mary McGowan

AGE: 85 BARNEGAT

Mary McGowan nee O'Brien, 85, of Barnegat, passed into the loving arms of Jesus and her late husband, Thomas Osborn McGowan and her parents, Patrick and Mary O'Brien on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010. Born and raised in Jersey City, she lived there until 1977 when she retired to the Jersey Shore with her family.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by her siblings, Vincent O'Brien, Johnny O'Brien, and Eleanor Hurley. She is survived by her loving sister, Madeline Murphy; and her devoted children, Thomas McGowan, Elise McCloskey, Kevin McGowan, Peter McGowan, and Jill Zarharchuck. Adoring Nanny to nine grandchildren, Corrin Arasa, Danny McCloskey, Meaghan Wakefield, Kimberley McCloskey, Ryan and Shauna McGowan, Andrew, Melissa and Doug Zarharchuck. Magnificent great-grandmother of five great-grandchildren, Devin Arasa, Grace and Leah McCloskey, Elliot and Phaedra Wakefield.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12 at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13 at St. Marys of the Pines, Manahawkin. Burial will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
