

Richard was born on April 5th, 1941, in Bellefonte, PA to Foster and Hazel Russell. He married his true love, Carol Johnson (Smith) on May 16, 1964.
Richard will forever be remembered as “Dick” Johnson and someone that would do anything for anyone.
He was a resident of Chesterfield, NJ for 35 years and Hamilton, NJ for 21 years. Richard worked for American Bridge, a division of U.S. Steel for 44 years, retiring in 2004. Richard served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of Gothic Fraternity Lodge No. 270, Capital Chapter DeMolay, Scottish Rite, Trenton Forrest #4 and the Bordentown Elks Lodge.
He enjoyed spending time at the beach in Long Beach Island, watching NASCAR, Penn State Football Games and listening to country music and Frank Sinatra. Above all else, Richard’s family was the most important to him and how he wanted to spend most of his time. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, poppop and friend. He will be deeply missed by all and forever remembered and cherished.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Carol, his two loving daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Thomas Gangemi of Haymarket, VA and Karen and Tony Jantorno of Barnegat, NJ. He is also survived by his cherished granddaughters Alicia (Ben) Hird, Kati Heilman, Lizzie (Jeriel) Rodriguez and Gabby Gangemi (fiancé Jake), his step grandchildren Mady & Ayden Jantorno, as well as his precious great-grandchildren; Cameron Thomas, Rylee Karen and Mason Joseph.

Calling hours will be Thursday, March 31st beginning at 10am, followed by a memorial service celebrating Richard’s life at 11:30 am at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ.
