Born and raised in Atlantic City, he resided in Brigantine for 48 years before settling in Manahawkin in 1998.
Bob worked as a lifeguard in Brigantine for several years and went on to honorably serve our country in the US Navy after high school. While in the Navy, he served on the USS Wasp Aircraft Carrier. Prior to retiring in 1998, he was a Police Sergeant for the Atlantic City Police Department, where he worked for 32 years. While holding many different positions in the department, his favorite was as a K-9 Officer, which began his love of German Shepherds. Throughout his entire career, Bob remained a true patriot who always showed his love for our country.
Bob was involved in many different clubs and organizations, including the Free Masons. He also enjoyed coaching softball and football at Holy Spirit High School. Bob loved watching the crew races for his son and two grandsons. Bob was also an avid collector, specifically of war memorabilia. He was a big history buff and shared his love of history with his family. A Philadelphia fan, he always cheered on the Eagles, Flyers, and Phillies.
Bob met the love of his life on a blind date in 1962, Margaret "Maggie". They married that year and resided in Atlantic City before building a home in Brigantine, where they raised their family.
Surviving are his loving wife 62 years, Maggie; his children: Bonnie Magro and her husband John; Margie Hiltner and her fiance, Troy Platt; Bobby Hiltner; and Mike Hiltner and his wife Jenn; his grandchildren: Anthony Magro and his wife Katie, Giovanni Magro, Jarrod Keiser, Michael Keiser, Bella Keiser, and Mikey Hiltner; his great-grandchild: AJ Magro; and many loving extended family members and friends. Family was most important to him, and he would do anything for anyone he loved.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Hazel Hiltner; and his brother, Ralph "Edward" Hiltner.
