Annette Ruth Jacobs (née Friedman) passed away peacefully in her home on June 21st, in her 90th year. Annette was a beloved wife, mother, proud grandmother, great-grandma, aunt, and devoted friend to many.
Annette attended secretarial school in Scranton, PA and worked for many years as an assistant teacher in Queens NY, where she resided for close to 30 years. She and her husband, the late Bernard Jacobs moved to New Jersey in 1997 and put down roots at the Ponds in Monroe Township, where she was active with many clubs and volunteer work, which she truly enjoyed. Being part of the choir, the book club, ORT, and the drama club were just a handful of activities that she loved. Annette made lifelong friendships living in the Ponds and with these friends she enjoyed travel, conversation, adventures, and lots of laughs.
Annette was born on August 21st, 1935 in Old Forge, PA. At the age of 19 she met a Scranton-born US Army vet: Bernard Jacobs, Jr., and they wed two years later. They were married for over 69 years until his death just a few short months ago at the age of 93. It truly was a beautiful marriage.
Together Annette and Bernie had two children: Mark and Caryl. And by the way, for those who don’t know, Caryl’s name is spelled the way it is because Annette saw it on a can of hairspray called ‘Caryl Richards’ and decided, why not? That’s the kind of free thinker that Annette was.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her son Mark, together with his wife Carol, have two wonderful sons: Ian and Eric. Ian and his wife Shelly have one daughter, Penny, and Eric and his wife Allison have two boys: Parker and Grayson.
Annette’s daughter Caryl is married to Danny Greenberg, and they have three children, Josh (who is married to Taylor), Kira and Rachel. Annette’s extended family was not very large, but was very important to her, and brought her immense joy. Danny and Kaye Jacobs, her nephews and nieces Craig, Joanne, Barry, David, Shelly, Claire, Jordan, Paige, Nate, Harrison, Maeve, Miles, and Erin all played important roles in her life, and she truly loved them. She was predeceased by her parents, Esther Mark Friedman and Max Freidman and by her beloved brother Seymour.
Annette will be remembered for her kindness and attentiveness to her family and friends. She had a beautiful life that included travelling the world, volunteering and spending time with her family. Annette’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
