David Neil Bellask of Monroe Township, New Jersey passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of October 22nd, after a challenging year of battling health issues. Born in the Better Borough of Brooklyn, he attended Brooklyn Technical High School and then pursued a degree in physics at Long Island University-Brooklyn. As it is written of our people, David met the love of his life Rochelle (Shelly) Alexander when he spent the summer of 1966 working at Harmony Country Club in the Catskills, and she was vacationing with her family.
After college David wanted to pursue a career in the space industry with the hope of one day working for NASA, but the Vietnam War made for a different vision for our country’s young men. David joined the National Guard in February of 1970 and wedded Shelly in September of that same year. Following his service, and now having started a family, David followed his Father and Grandfather into the IBEW Local 3. He started in the apprenticeship program which led him on a career path, first as a licensed electrician, then electrical engineer, project manager, and advancing to Vice President of Consolidated Electric, energizing many of New York’s grandest sky scrapers.
Now with daughter Sharon, Dave and Shelly moved to Lakewood in 1976 and soon welcomed Jennifer to the family. Despite commuting to the City daily, Dave still found time to be an active member of the Knights of Pythias rising to the rank of Grand Chancellor of the State of New Jersey. It was in the Pythians that he made some of his closest friends and “chosen family”.
With both girls established in their professional careers and “no one getting any younger” Dave and Shelly moved from Lakewood to the Stonebridge Development in Monroe Township in 2009, quickly making new friends and Dave providing his professional expertise to the Engineering Committee and Board.
While Dave had taken on many titles and responsibilities over the course of his life, the one he reveled in most was “Pop Pop”, which came with the birth of his first grandchild Olivia in 2013. Coinciding with his retirement and the end of his daily commute, Pop Pop threw himself into his new role, happily doting on first Olivia and then his Grandson Nathaniel in 2016.
The daily rhythms of retired life seemed to agree with Dave and he found himself as busy as ever, enjoying cruising all over the world with Shelly, family, and friends, frequent visits to see his grandkids, and his work with the Pythians. Recently health challenges had slowed him down, but he was busy planning his next cruise and a trip to Hawaii when he passed unexpectedly.
David will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother in law, dutiful friend, avid photographer and traveler, proud member of the Jewish people and all around mensch. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Rochelle, daughters Sharon (Sean) Rousseau and Jennifer (Jonathan) Kabak, and their children Olivia and Nathaniel who will most certainly miss their Pop Pop.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 11:00 am Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Avenue, Manalapan, NJ 07726.
Burial will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, New Jersey.
The family will be sitting shiva at the Bellask residence; 97 Drawbridge Dr. Monroe Township, NJ 08831 They will be sitting on Friday from 3pm-5pm, Saturday from 7pm-9pm, Sunday from 11am-3pm, and 6:30pm-6:30pm and Monday and Tuesday between the hours of 11am-3pm, and 6:30pm-8:30pm.
