Edward M. Miller was born December 15, 1943 in the shadow of Yankee Stadium to Francis (Fortgang) and Isadore Jack Miller. Ed earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from NYU and began his journey to greatness in his teaching career in Old Bridge, NJ where he went on to meet his wife, become an inspiration to thousands of students throughout his 38 year teaching career, a Camp Director, a Jewish Educator, Entertainer and Spiritual Guide.
Ed is survived by the love of his life - his wife of 52 years Susan (Tarnofsky) Miller, sons Matthew, Adam and his wife Jean, daughter Leigh (Miller) Spiteri and her husband John, his sister Maxine (Miller) Pomerantz and her husband Martin, his grandchildren, Abigail, Nathaniel and Sarah Miller, his “best buddy” Charlie Rose Spiteri and his entire extended family.
Ed was a true journeyman who wore many hats throughout his lifetime. He was always respected, loved and looked upon as a friend, mentor, teacher, comedian, sometimes “Rabbi” and baseball analyst. Throughout his lifetime he continued to feel this love and respect from those who affectionately remembered him as Little Eddie, Cousin Eddie, Uncle Eddie, Mr. Miller, My Most Precious Ed, Daddy, Rabbi Slim, Grandpa and Gee-Gee. Ed’s #78 has now been retired and will be enshrined in the memories of all who had the privilege to know him.
A funeral service for Big Ed will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Temple Shalom, 5 Ayrmont Lane, Aberdeen, NJ 07747. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge Township, NJ 07095.
The family will return to Temple Shalom on Tuesday for Shiva at 6:30pm – 8:30pm. Service beginning at 7pm.
