Fred Weiner, 91, of Memphis, TN, formerly of West Windsor, NJ passed away on October 22, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Esther and William Weiner, he resided in East Windsor, NJ for 35 years before moving to West Windsor, NJ for 18 years. In 2022, he and his wife moved down to Memphis, TN. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree from Hunter College, in New York City, Fred served proudly in the U.S. Army as a Medic. After serving in the U.S. Army, Fred began his career in education, initially starting out as a junior high school teacher in Brooklyn, NY. During this time, he met, fell in love with, and married his devoted wife of 65 years, Johanna Grebler Weiner. After realizing that the classroom wasn’t for him but still wanting to work with young people, he began graduate studies at New York University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling.
In 1962, Fred began his career in counseling in Pennsville, NJ. He worked as a school guidance counselor for 63 years having spent the last 50 of his career as Professor of Counseling at Mercer County Community College in West Windsor, NJ. Mercer wasn’t just his place of employment but was also his second home. Though Fred participated in most aspects of life at Mercer County Community College, his number one priority was to help students navigate their time at Mercer successfully. He was the recipient of many awards including earning Counselor of the Year Award by the New Jersey Community College Counselors’ Association for his work with AIDS education and a scholarship in his name was established by the Student Life Association.
As devoted as he was to his students, nothing could compare to the love he had for his family. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Fred was always encouraging and positive. He instilled confidence in his daughters and grandchildren and made them feel special. Allowing them to feel comfortable taking chances in life because he always had their backs.
