Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Larry held his Weequahic roots close to his heart and often reminisced fondly about his hometown. He lived in Manalapan for many years before settling in the Riviera at East Windsor community.
Larry was deeply devoted to his family. Whether coaching his children—Mitchell, Jason, and Danielle—on the field, cheering them on from the sidelines, or serving as their personal chauffeur with an unmatched sense of direction, he was always there. He loved making elaborate weekend breakfasts, and his kids will never forget their time spent together at Great Adventure, Action Park, the beach, golf courses, boardwalks, concerts, and sporting events.
A proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Larry enjoyed sharing stories of his college days and his time traveling the country as an Army Ranger and member of the National Guard. Professionally, he served as a CPA and Controller for Sambol Construction Company in Toms River for many years, until his retirement.
Larry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rita, the apple of his eye, who passed away in 2016. He is survived by his children: Jason Weitzner, Mitchell Weitzner, and Danielle Rubinowitsch and her husband Meron. He also leaves behind his brother Jerome Weitzner and his wife Nancy, as well as many loving cousins, relatives, and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1098 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, New Jersey 07095.
In honor of Larry’s memory, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or Meals on Wheels.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Danielle and Meron in North Arlington on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
