Mike was a GREAT guy and the best teammate you could have---he was on our O- and D-lines at MHS... Incredible enthusiasm and always excited when he got on the field, be it a game or practice, and that enthusiasm was always contagious... Kid worked his butt off, and off the field the nicest guy you could find... I'm not doing Mike justice with my mediocre words in all truthfulness... I loved this guy... And, funny thing, he always made us celebrate the date he recovered the fumble against Matawan when they were going in from the three yard line on the last drive of the game---he saved us and we held on to win 12-10 in that '82 Homecoming game, and henceforth he always made us celebrate the "greatest play in MHS football history" on the same date😃😃😃. It was funny and it was a riot, and I was always glad he had that play😊... #68, Mike Gilston, just a great, great guy♥️

Mike was a great person and awesome teammate! I remember him always giving 100% and always happy. Even though i have not seen him since HS i can still see his face and her his voice . He had a very caring heart and I will miss him and he will always be my Mustang brother.

So saddened by this news. Only good things come to mind when I think about him. Mike always had a gentle and positive attitude. Somehow he was able to convey that positive attitude through his kindness, smile, and enthusiasm. He was selfless.
May you Rest In Peace, Mike. Know that you will be missed. 😔

My condolences to Patty and the rest of the Gilston family - in addition to all of Mike’s friends. I got to know Mike through Mustang football as we played the same position. He was always fearless and was a great leader. Very sad. RIP.

I will never forget going to see Bruce Springsteen with michael a couple years after HS. I’ve never been a Bruce fan, but he was so happy at that concert that I had the greatest time as his enthusiasm just rubbed off on me. He was like that.. his love of life was contagious. I can honestly say he was a great guy. I wish there were more like him. The world has lost a great soul but I bet his spirit lives on in his kids. I may not have spoken to Micheal for decades but that’s my loss….I was blessed to have spent some great years being his friend.

I just learned of Mike's passing today - and am deeply saddened.

I always liked Mike very much and enjoyed all of the time that I ever spent with him (except batting against him in Little League - he struck me out a lot !!)

I can remember bumping into him at the Matawan train station a few times - and was excited to run into him at the stadium club in CitiField a few years ago !!

He was a super nice guy - it was always such a wonderful, fun surprise when I would see him. He will be missed

We express our deepest condolences to the Gilston family. Mike was a kind and gentle man. He managed our portfolios for many years and became a friend. We heard of his family vacations and his children's successes in life. He was so proud of them.
Mike not only looked out for our finances, but those of my 91 year old mother, my sister and my daughter. We will all miss his advice, but we will miss him more.
Prayers and thoughts are with you at this very difficult time. Rest Peacefully, Mike.
