December 22, 1934 – March 20, 2026
Phyllis Weinstein, 91, of Plainsboro, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Phyllis was a graduate of James Madison High School. Throughout her life, she embraced a variety of roles with enthusiasm and an open heart, but the roles she cherished most were being a devoted mom and grandma.
Phyllis was the beloved wife of Leon Weinstein for 71 years; he predeceased her by just seven months. She was also predeceased by her parents, Eli and Yetta Braunstein.
She is lovingly remembered by her brother, Alan Braunstein, and sister-in-law, Barbara Braunstein; her daughters, Sue Peasley (John), Ellen Gehring, and Mindy Martin (Dino); her six cherished grandchildren, Meagan King (Chris), Bryan Peasley (Katie), Evan Gehring, Matthew Gehring, Jules Martin, and Jessie Martin; her three adored great-grandchildren, Noah, Adam, and James King; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Family was at the center of Phyllis’s life, and nothing brought her more happiness than being surrounded by those she loved. She had a special gift for making people feel welcomed, cared for, and appreciated, and her home and her heart were always open.
In addition to raising her family, Phyllis brought her warmth and willingness to try new things to every role she held. She worked in an orthodontic office and later learned medical coding at Muhlenberg Hospital, approaching each opportunity with curiosity, determination, and a sense of humor.
Music was a lifelong source of joy. She loved attending Broadway shows, watching her grandchildren perform, and singing in choirs from her school days through her retirement community’s glee club. A talented pianist, she treasured her childhood piano and continued to play for her family well into her later years.
Phyllis also embraced community and friendship, especially in her later years, enjoying activities such as Zumba, Canasta, and Mahjong. She formed many meaningful friendships and brought her warmth, kindness, and gentle smile wherever she went.
She will be remembered above all for her strength and resilience. Time and again, she faced serious health challenges with remarkable determination, always finding her way back to those she loved. Her kindness, gracious nature, and positive spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Even in difficult moments, she carried herself with grace, a smile, and a deep appreciation for life.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapel in Manalapan, New Jersey, followed by interment at Mount Sinai Cemetery in Morganville, New Jersey. Shiva will be observed on Tuesday, March 24, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the home of Alan and Barbara Braunstein, 24 Stratford Lane, Holmdel, New Jersey.
