I've known Rose Roberts since I was a young girl. Although a petite woman, Rose was larger than life. Her vitality, curiosity and determination made her a singular work of art; there quite simply is no one like her. She will never be forgotten.

My fondest memory of Rose was her toast to Dickens on his birthday this year (2015), including her singing Broadway show tunes. Quintessential Rose!

I loved Roseand will miss her very much. We met several years ago at the New York Historical Society when I admired her jewelry.  Rose always looked so snazzy.  We struck up a conversation and before we parted she asked me the inevitable question.Do you like Dickens?   She handed me her card.we kept in touch and before you could say Great Expectations I was a proud, card carrying member of the Charles Dickens Fellowship of New York traveling to Manhattan from Bethlehem PA for the lively meetings, luncheons, etc.  Rose always greeted me warmly.and scolded me if I wasn't wearing my Geranium pin.  She was unforgettable and it was a pleasure to have known her. I offer my deepest sympathy to Rose's family and I also offer this prayer by Charles Dickens in Rose's memory: 
We humbly beseech thee O Father that we may be honest and true in all our dealings, and gentle and merciful to the faults of others, remembering of how much gentleness and mercy we stand in need ourselves; That we may earnestly try to live in thy true faith, honor and love, and in charity and goodwill with all our fellow creatures; That we may worship thee in every beautiful and wonderful thing thou hast made, and sympathize with the whole world of thy glorious creation. Amen.

Thank you remarkable Rose, for keeping the DFNY alive and well ... and continuously growing. Our current membership numbers are all due to your hard work.  We miss you already.

Rose Roberts was a vibrant lady who added so much humor and intellectual thought to our monthly Dickens Fellowship of New York meetings.

Rose Roberts considered herself to be my "Dickens Grandmother".  She was a very special person who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Dear Lesley, Elyse and family.  It's been a long journey of friendship between Lesley and our group of four, and serendipitously, Elyse was in my brother Peter's circle of friends back in the good old days of "The Projects" and environs, nearly 50 years ago in Sheepshead Bay.  We've been through many of life's happy events together and have witnessed miracles in our lives over the years that, looking back on them, were nothing short of fantastic.  We had our ups and downs, as all friends and family do, but still we persevere.  I remember Rose as a fireball - always on the go, always making plans, always doing something to make her life more vital for her and she succeeded for 93 years!  May she enjoy her journey into the next phase of her existence at least as much as she has this one.  Lesley and Elyse, now is the time that most of our parents have walked into the light.  I believe my father is the only one left out of our 4 sets of parents - Lesley, Harriet, Linda and me.  We treasure them in our memories and remember the fun times (and the not so fun times) with fondness and joy in knowing that we lived the lives we chose to live, we chose the families we were born into, and reveled in the whole gantza magilla!!  I weep for the heaviness in our hearts right now, especially Lesley and Elyse, and will find that as time passes we will lose that weight and feel the lightness of being -- being 'besties' forever!  Lesley and Elyse, may peace and warmth and love continue to build between you now and forever as well.  With big hugs and big love, Carol (Cohen) Gonzales

To say that the Dickens Fellowship of NY will sorely miss Rose is an understatement. However, her presence will always be felt at our meetings.
