

Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Sam immigrated to the United States as a young boy and spent his early years in the Bronx, New York. Over the years, he called New Mexico and Staten Island home before settling in Jackson, New Jersey.
The proud son of Holocaust survivors Joseph and Tzipporah Birnberg, Sam carried forward their legacy of resilience, strength, and love. He proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, a reflection of his lifelong commitment to service and community.
Sam is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Nava Katz-Birnberg; his loving daughters, Aliza Perruzzi and her husband Greg, and Elana Joyce and her husband Jonathan; his cherished grandchildren, Lilah, Jonathan, Jacob, and Eli; his sister, Sara Sztulwark; and his brother, Jake Birnberg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Avenue, Manalapan, NJ. Burial will follow at Freehold Hebrew Benefit Society Cemetery, Route 33, Freehold, NJ.
Shiva will be observed at the Birnberg residence, 26 Shoal Road, Jackson, NJ 08527, on:
• Thursday: 4:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
• Friday: 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
• Sunday: 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
