

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mom worked for the Navy until 1947. She worked as a secretary in advertising for Detecto Scale Company. Sylvia loved the Glenwood Senior Center in Brooklyn, NY. She enjoyed teaching anyone who wanted to learn to knit. Sylvia loved dinner shows and Atlantic City trips. She was kind, sweet, patient and had a generous loving heart. Mom was always smiling and ready to go anywhere and do anything. When she moved to Rossmoor in 2005, she became a member of the Rossmoor Jewish Congregation and the Sisterhood. She was an avid member of the Scrabble Club.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Murray (January 2006 after 63 years of marriage). She is survived by her devoted children, Sandra Steinberg Linenschmidt and Dr. Dale Steinberg McElroy. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren, Ivy Jane and Steven Jacob.
After services at Bloomfield Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan, NJ, the burial will follow at Old Montefiore Cemetery on Springfield Blvd, in Queens, NY. The family will be sitting Shiva at Sylvia's home on Wednesday following the burial until 9PM, Thursday from 11AM-3PM and 5PM-9PM and Friday from 11AM-3PM. Then Shiva will be at Dale Steinberg's home, 12 Chelsea Road, Old Bridge, NJ 08857 on Sunday thru Tuesday from 11AM-3PM and 5PM-9PM. Shiva will also be at Sandra Steinberg Linenschmidt's home, 155 Sixth Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11217 on Sunday and Monday from 11AM-3PM and 5PM-9PM.
