

Barbara Ann Rainey, 83, of Manchester passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Elliot Hospital. She was born in Manchester on September 28, 1931, the daughter of James and Ruth (Gelb) O’Donnell.
She was raised in Manchester and graduated from St. Joseph High School for Girls and the Moore Moore Hospital School of Nursing. Barbara resided in Manchester for most of her life, except for a period during the Korean War when she lived in San Diego, CA and Whidbey Island WA naval air stations when her husband was stationed there.
A Registered Nurse, Barbara had been employed by the Elliot Hospital and also Catholic Medical Center. Her most rewarding position as an RN was with the Parish Nursing Program of CMC.
She was a devout parishioner of St. Joseph Cathedral. She was pre-deceased by her husband William F. Rainey in March 1993, a son Brendan Rainey in May 2008 and a brother Kevin O’Donnell.
Members of the family include two daughters, Linda Rainey-Mitchell and her husband Donald Mitchell , and Colleen Rainey, all of Manchester; three sons, Michael Rainey and his wife Rachel of Northwood, NH, Christopher Rainey and his wife Christine and Matthew Rainey and his wife Nancy, all of Manchester; four grandchildren, Jennifer Malynowski, Christopher Malynowski, Stephanie Rainey and Zoe Rainey; two great grandchildren, Abigail White and Ella Malynowski; three sisters, Shirley LaRoche,, and Connie Harisiades, both of Manchester, and Judith Titus of Virginia Beach, VA; many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were on Wednesday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover St., corner of Beech St. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Joseph Cathedral Chapel, Lowell St.,Thursday at 10 AM. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford. Memorial donations may be made to The Parish Nurse Program of CMC, Catholic Medical Center, 100 McGregor St., Manchester NH 03102.
