

Bessie G. Kontomaris, 101, died October 7, 2013 at Presidential Oaks in Concord, NH. She was born in Manchester on August 25, 1912 to Fotis and Eleni (Tsolas) Garos and had resided in Manchester all her life until entering the nursing home several years ago.
She attended local schools and was employed for over 40 years by J.F. McElwain Shoe Co. She also worked at Van Otis Chocolates for several years.
Bessie was a communicant of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral all of her life. She was an active member, including working with her sister, in the Glendi Loukomades booth. On May 17, 1998, along with her sister, Aglaia Macropol, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding service to the St. George community.
Mrs. Kontomaris was a member of the Tri-Ortho Society, The Ladies Anagennesis Society and the Daughters of Penelope. She was a loving sister and aunt to her nephews and grand nephew.
Family members include two nephews, Philip Garos of Manchester and George Garos of Concord; a grand nephew, Christopher Garos of Brooklyn, NY; a sister-in-law, Bessie Z. Garos of Concord. She was pre deceased by her husband William Kontomaris in 1971 and by her brother Thomas Garos and a sister Aglaia Macropol.
A calling hour was held on Friday from 10 AM to 11 AM in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St., Manchester followed by a service at 11 AM in the Cathedral. Burial will in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 650 Hanover St., Manchester NH 03104.
