

Eugene R. “Gene” Plant, 73, of Manchester, died January 27, 2015 at the Catholic Medical Center after a short illness. He was born in Barre, VT, on February 2, 1941, the son of Raymond and Evelyn (Avery) Plant. He grew up in Barre and was educated in the local school system. As a teenager he moved with his family to Somerville, MA.
Gene was a proud veteran of the US Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was stationed in the U.S. and France. He was an excellent businessman and was the owner/operator of several businesses including the Second St. Mobil Station which he co-owned with his brother Donald. He loved restoring vintage automobiles and landscaping his yard. He also enjoyed traveling and the time he spent with his family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Members of his family include his wife of 48 years Dianne (Danault) Plant of Manchester, his two sons Michael Plant and his wife Christine of Weare and Jeffrey Plant and his wife Michelle of Manchester, his grandchildren Oliver Plant of Weare and Brianna Plant and Joshua Plant both of Manchester, his four brothers Paul Plant and his wife Judy of Milford, Donald Plant and his wife Janet of Bedford, Earl Plant and his wife Lorraine and David Plant and his wife Donna all of Nottingham, his three sisters Joyce Lavalette and her husband Gerry of Florida, Anna Jutras of Milford and Shirley McQuade of Newmarket and his two step-sisters Lorraine Sanderson and Leona McGaskill as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at Amedisys Home Health & Hospice Care and the Catholic Medical Center for their loving care and support.
Visitation was held on Saturday January 31 from 1 to 4 pm at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester. A Memorial Service was celebrated at 3 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Gene’s name be made to the ALS Association, Northern New England Chapter 10 Ferry St. Suite 309, Concord, NH 03301.
