

Francis “Frank” Malik, 75, of Manchester died February 9, 2011 at the Hackett Hill Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Manchester on October 12, 1935, the son of the late Frank and Stephanie (Dominick) Malik.
A lifelong resident of the Queen City, he was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1953 as a three sport athlete in football, basketball and baseball. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Tilton Prep School as a post-graduate. He again was a tri-athlete. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Anselm College.
He then went on to serve his country in the Army as a Special Services Fitness and Athletic Director at Fort Sam Houston, TX and also in France. He was also a liaison with the French population in developing sports programs.
He began a teaching and coaching career in 1962 at Memorial and Central High Schools, teaching health and physical fitness. Always dedicated to his profession, he served as a successful assistant football coach for eleven years at Memorial and also served as assistant basketball coach for four years and assistant baseball coach for two years. In 1965 he became assistant basketball coach at Central thru 1970.
In 1994 Coach Malik returned to Memorial as an assistant football coach. He retired from coaching and teaching in December 2006. In June 1999 he was inducted into the Tilton School Athletic Hall of Fame for his many years of devoted service to the youth of Manchester and surrounding communities. In July 2007 Coach Malik was also inducted into the Queen City Hall of Fame.
He was a communicant of St. Hedwig Church. He had been actively involved in many youth sports programs such as Pop Warner Football, Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, but above all else cherished his family as a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Helena R. (Louis) Malik of Manchester; a daughter, Lisa A. Meisel of Manchester and three grandsons, James W. Malik, Anthony F. Malik and Christopher M. Malik, all of Manchester.
Calling hours were on Sunday from 3 to 7 PM in the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover St., corner of Beech St. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at 11 AM in St. Hedwig Church, corner of Orange and Beech Sts. Burial with military honors will followed in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Coach Malik’s name may be made to Central High School- Frank A. Malik Scholarship, 207 Lowell St., Manchester NH 03104.
