

Jose A. Ornelas, 86, of Manchester died March 13, 2010 at the Elliot Hospital after a period of declining health. He was born in Caniço, Madeira Islands, Portugal on February 22, 1924, the son of the late Jose Agostinho and Maria (Nobrega) Ornelas.
Raised and educated in the Madeira Islands he worked as a tour bus driver. In February 1968 he moved to Manchester with his family and prior to retirement was employed by Alltex Uniforms in the dry cleaning department.
He always cherished the time with family and was a dedicated husband, father grandfather, great grandfather and brother. Mr. Ornelas was a communicant of St. Pius X Church. He greatly enjoyed card games and dominos.
He is survived by his wife Fernanda (Freitas) Ornelas of Manchester; A daughter, Anna M. Silva of Dumbarton; two sons, John L. Ornelas and Fern A. Ornelas, both of Manchester; two grandchildren, Samantha Ornelas and Cassandra Gordon, both of Manchester; three great grandsons; two sisters, Beatriz Quintal of Manchester and Filomena Ornelas of Venezuela; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Fernanda (Freitas) Ornelas on January 16, 1997.
Calling hours were on Monday from 5 to 8 PM in the McHugh Funeral Home, 483 Beech St., corner of Hanover St. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday at 12:30 PM in St. Pius X Church, 575 Candia Rd. Burial followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
