

William J. McVeigh, 68, of Manchester died December 4, 2010 at his residence after a sudden illness. He was born in Manchester on April 23, 1942, the son of the late John McVeigh and survived by Margaret (Devan) McVeigh of Manchester.
He was raised and educated in Manchester and was a graduate of Bishop Bradley High School, class of 1960. He furthered his education and received an Associate’s degree from the Culinary Institute of Arts. Mr. McVeigh was a United States Army Veteran, serving as a Military Policeman on the staff of General William Westmoreland.
His entire career was spent in the food service industry; starting with the McDonald’s Corporation as a supervisor of the New Hampshire restaurants. He recently retired in November from Catholic Medical Center’s food service department.
He was a relentless optimist and he was an avid sports fan to his Celtics, Patriots and a member of “Red Sox Nation”. A true “love at first sight” story, he was devoted to his wife of 44 years, Patricia, whom he met when she was a student nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing. He was dedicated to his children and grandchildren and enjoyed vacations in Lake George, NY mostly in August. Above all else he loved spending time with his cherished family.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Peltonen) McVeigh of Manchester; two daughters Colleen Philibotte and her husband Tom of Avondale, PA and Cheryl McVeigh of Manchester; a son Brian McVeigh and his wife Leila of Rye, NH; his mother Margaret (Devan) McVeigh of Manchester; four grandchildren, Katie Philibotte, Margaret McVeigh, Abigayle McVeigh and Charlotte McVeigh; two sisters, Maureen (Bob) Whitfield, of Keene. Ellen (Arthur) Menard, of Sarasota, FL, and brothers Michael (Jackie) McVeigh, of N. Andover, MA, Alan McVeigh, of Manchester, predeceased by infant brother John J. McVeigh. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours were on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the McHugh Funeral Home, 483 Beech St., and corner of Hanover St. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday at 1:30 PM in St. Pius X Church; 575 Candia Rd.
