

Lt. Joseph E. McCarthy, 91, of Whiting, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 9, 2023, at the Pines at Whiting. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Joseph resided in Norfolk, VA, before moving to Lakehurst in 1966, and then Whiting in 2019. From 1948 to 1977, Mr. McCarthy served in the US Navy retiring from Lakehurst Naval Engineering Center as Senior Lt. He served on many Naval Aircraft Carriers during his career, serving during the Vietnam War and Korean Conflict. Joseph had also worked for Ciba Geigy in Toms River. He was a parishioner of St. Johns RC Church, Lakehurst, a member of the VFW of Lakehurst # 129, the AM Vets #2 Jackson and the Boatswains of Lakehurst. Joseph enjoyed spending his time shopping and couponing, watching tv, cooking, family get togethers, a cold beer and a pepperoni pizza.
Joseph was predeceased by his wife Ann, daughter Patricia Bunnell and grandson Brian Joseph McCarthy, his parents Daniel and Mary, and brothers Daniel, Gerald and John. He is survived by his children; Joseph E. McCarthy, Jr. and his wife Beverly, Michael R. McCarthy and his companion Teresa, John F. McCarthy and his wife Linda, and Kathleen Ann Kelly and her husband Michael, his grandchildren; Robert McCarthy, Tammy Jenkins, William Bunnell, Michael Kelly, Joseph Kelly, Keith McCarthy, Christopher McCarthy, Daniel McCarthy, Josh Cardell, Jason Cardell, and Justin Cardell and his sisters Margaret Weber and Ann Kirsch. Joseph is also survived many great grandchildren, great great grandchild, nieces nephews, and many friends.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation for Joseph on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 3010 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ 08759. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 10 to 10:45 am at St. Johns RC Church, 619 Chestnut Street, Lakehurst, NJ 08759. Interment with Military Honors to follow at Saint Mary of the Lake Cemetery, 1 Honey Locust Street, Lakewood, NJ 08701.
