
Albert H. Sauer, 80, of Mansfield died Thursday evening, January 17, 2002 at MedCentral Mansfield after an extended illness. Mr. Sauer was born January 6, 1922 in Mansfield, Ohio living in the area all of his life. He graduated from Springfield Township High School in 1940. He retired from Westinghouse after 39 years and did lawn and garden work as well. He was a member of Ontario United Methodist Church. Mr. Sauer boxed at Friendly House during high school and was a light heavy weight boxer while serving in the Navy. He enjoyed gardening, coon hunting, fishing and following Ontario High School basketball. Mr. Sauer was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the VFW Post 9943.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Lang of Sandusky, Ohio Cheryl & Larry Goble of Vinton, Ohio and Barbara & Terry Glass of Mansfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward & Madeline Sauer of Ontario; 10 grandchildren, William, Ron and Angela Lang, Shawn, Shannon and Amy Goble, Tom and Shelly Goble and Michelle and Scott Sauer; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph & Florence Sauer of Mansfield and Michael & Betty Sauer of Cleveland; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Elizabeth Bender of Mansfield and Mary Ella & Lee Greenland of Strongsville; a sister-in-law, Margaret Zediker of Mansfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael N. & Elizabeth Knapp Sauer; his wife of 58 years, Lucille M. Zediker Sauer; and a great-grandchild Emily Jane Browning.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Rev. James F. Winkler. Military services will be held at Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Ontario United Methodist Church.
