
Alfred L. Hogan, 79, of Mansfield, died early Tuesday morning, December 1, 2009, at The OSU Medical Center. He was born August 4, 1930, in Wheelersburg, Ohio, to William Bernhard and Nellie McGuire Hogan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. Alfred was a lifetime member of Amvets Post #26, V.F.W. Post #3494, and was also a member of the International Radio Patrol. He retired from General Motors where he was employed as a welder in the maintenance department. Alfred was a very caring and thoughtful man with a heart of gold, saving many items given to him by others. He enjoyed giving to others and immensely enjoyed dancing and music. He and his wife, Barbara, enjoyed 48 years of marriage.
He is survived by his loving companion, Barbara Bond of Mansfield; six children, Paulina Gary Caudill of Mansfield, Alfred Barbara Hogan, Jr. of Portland, ME, David R. Carol Hogan of Colorado Springs, CO, Jon A. Debbie Hogan of Bellville, Paul W. Hogan of Mansfield and Krissanna J. Hogan of Cleveland; nineteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Virginia Caldwell of Lexington, Doris "Dot" Smith of Columbus, Barbara Alu of Las Vegas, NV, and Sandra Hogan of Columbus; one brother, Kenneth Hogan of Pickerington; one sister-in-law, Jeanine Hogan of Mansfield; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Johnson Hogan in 2000; and brothers and sisters, Ethel, Harold, Jackie, Sandra Kay, Richard, Bonnie, Willie, Loy and Helen.
Memorial services will be Friday, December 4, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Mansfield. Alfred's son-in-law, Gary Caudill will conduct the service. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday. Military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will be observed at the funeral home following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
