

Alta M. Spears Cheek, 79, of Mansfield died unexpectedly Sunday evening, July 28, 2002 at MedCentral Mansfield. Mrs. Cheek was born November 19, 1922 in Henrietta, Kentucky to Epperson & Susie Daniel Spears. Alta married the love of her life, Clyde Cheek, June 28, 1940 in Davisport, Kentucky. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.
Called home to be with her Lord and Savior, she leaves to cherish her memory three daughters and sons-in-law, Lori & Bud Glass of Shelby, Joyce Steiner and Chris & John Fry, all of Ontario; three sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Cheek of Defiance, Troy & Toni Cheek of Lake Wales, Florida and Donald & Bonnie Cheek of Ontario; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Opal & Fred Hinkle and Martha & John Beck, all of Perrysville and Ida Cheek of Defiance; two half sisters and a brother-in-law, Garnet & Curtis Lehner of Bellville and Lucille Gray of Mansfield; and two half brothers, Will Spears of Paintsville, Kentucky and Jerry Spears of Bellville. A devoted member of Dean Road Free Will Baptist Church where she leaves behind special friends, Reba and Louie Lambert, a special niece and spouse, Winifred and Darrel Dalton, her walking buddy, Helen Vipperman and a host of cherished friends and loved ones. She loved her church and considered it her home. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters, Eathlen Lemaster, Thelma Lemaster, Edna Setser and Mary Louise Sumpter; two brothers, James Orville Spears and Freddie Spears; and a daughter-in-law, Miriam Kay Roach Cheek.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Tuesday, July 30, 2002, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Virgil Masters. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dean Road Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund.
