
Andy Hanshaw, 89, of Mansfield, died late Monday evening, July 19, 2010 at his home with his family by his side. Born August 12, 1920 in Elliott County, Kentucky, he was the son of Leoda Segraves and Harrison Hanshaw. Andy was the owner and operator of Hanshaw's Grocery Store. He attended Thursday evening services at Dean Road Free Will Baptist Church and was a member of Bowman Street Church of God. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Andy enjoyed hunting and raised his own beagles most of his life. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and every Christmas he and his grandchildren played a game called "Crack a Butt". His family and friends enjoyed the peaceful retreat at his cabin in the woods.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy Hanshaw of Mansfield and Roger Hanshaw of Kentucky; daughter, Connie Hanshaw of Mansfield; grandchildren, Robert "Andy" Hanshaw, Scott Bessie Hanshaw, Timothy Tiffanie Hanshaw, Meredith Hanshaw, Michelle Michael Lybarger, Jennifer Kevin Taylor, Amy Abshire, Kristen Theodore Tavrides, Jarrod Lyons Sheryl Buffmeyer, and Shaun Radcliffe Jen Hernandez; fourteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and Will. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Nora "Mable" Tackett Hanshaw; infant daughter, Peggy Sue Hanshaw; brothers, Cecil, Adrian, Earsel, Ben, Arthur and Ralph Hanshaw; and infant sister, Mary Ann.
Friends may visit from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Mansfield. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Clifford Earl Tackett officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park with military honors by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail.
