

Anita M. Butts, 93, of Shelby, Ohio, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Crestwood Care Center. Born August 10, 1924 in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Everett and Grace Catherine (Ward) Brest.
Anita was raised in New Castle, Pennsylvania and as a young lady, worked for her father at the Eastern Division of Pennsylvania Railroad where she did shorthand and typing. She was the first paid female of that division. Anita retired from Richland Bank where she worked in the Trust Department. She was a member of Eastern Star since 1943 where she served as Chaplain and was a member of Bellville Lutheran Church. She enjoyed camping, reading and square dancing with her husband, Eugene. Anita also helped her husband in transporting children to Shriners Burn Unit.
She is survived by her son, Stan (Diana) Butts; her daughter, Becky (Joe) Sparks; grandchildren, Brian Butts, Kim (Michael) Bishop and Lisa (Chris) Fountain; step grandchildren, Jill (Leon) Saul, Mick (Staci) Fry and Tim (Christy) Fry; great grandchildren, Lucas Butts, Dylan Butts, Allyson Bishop and Caitlyn Bishop; step great grandchildren, Garett Fry, Katie Fry, Sydney Fry, Jack Fry, Nathan Saul and Mark Saul; a sister, Pat (Bob) Shonk; a sister-in-law, Carol Brest; and a brother-in-law, Ed Behringer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Butts whom she married September 15, 1946; a step daughter, Katherine Pequignot; a sister, Cathy Behringer; and two brothers, Everett Eugene Brest and Dr. Charles Lynn Brest.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 48 Church Street, Bellville, Ohio 44813 conducted by Pastor Doug Pretorius.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, St. Paul Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
