

Anita L. Mawhorr, 77, of Mansfield, passed away late Monday evening, August 4, 2014 at The Good Shepherd in Ashland. She was born April 15, 1937 in Mansfield to the late Mathilda Pasheilich Schnittke and Richmond F. Schnittke. She loved children and often took care of the neighborhood children, as well as her own. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. Anita could often be found playing catch with her children and others in the neighborhood. Her caring demeanor extended to her four cats, whom she leaves behind.
In Anita's life, family always came first and making her husband and children a priority were essential for her. She was an amazing mother and wife. For most of her life, Anita was a homemaker, but chose to go to work when her children were in college in order to help provide for the pursuit of their dreams. She worked for United Telephone for 16 years until her retirement.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Marvin Mawhorr; two children, Brian (Pamela) Mawhorr and Dr. Tina Mawhorr, both of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Brandon (Christina) Mawhorr, Lindsay (Rob) Wheeland and Matthew Mawhorr; three great-grandchildren, Gavin Mawhorr, Carly and Bella Wheeland; two brothers, Carl (Kay) Schnittke of Ontario and David (Christina) Schnittke of Jacksonville, FL. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou Poland.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2014 in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Private graveside services in Mansfield Memorial Park will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
