

Betty J. Royse Matthews, 79, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Lexington Court Care Center. Born March 1, 1936 in Ringos Mills, KY, she was the daughter of Carl E. and Monie (Lambert) Bumgardener. Betty was a member of PPA, PPO, PASO, APAG, The Moose, and The Owls. Betty loved to paint and owned and operated her own business, Royse Graphic Color Studio. She was a gifted, self taught artist who went on to receive many awards such as Artist of the Year for Ohio 13 times, was the first person to receive the Photo Laurel Degree, and the seventh person to receive the Photo Masters Degree. Betty also received the Ohio House of Representative Certificate Award from Sherrod Brown. She enjoyed sharing her gift and loved teaching others to paint. She also enjoyed muscle cars and NASCAR racing, golfing, Judo, gospel music, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Tracy) Royse and Marty (Linda) Royse; grandchildren, William Royse, Daniel Royse, Tyler Sowers, Chris Pore, Clark Pore, Michelle Johnson, Canduce Morrill, Seth Howell, Scott Howell, and Shawn Howell; great grandchildren, Parker Royse, Brandon Royse, Chloe Pore, MacKenzie Pore, Morgan Pore, Chloe Howell, Brock Howell, Derek Howell, and Griffin Howell. Brother and sisters, Bud Bumgardener, Marilyn Causey, Sue (Gary) Razor, Dean (John) Black, Martha (Charles "Skeeter") Waltz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Royse, second husband, Manny Matthews, and great granddaughters, Aubrey Royse and Avery Howell.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario with Pastor Nate Meiers officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.
