

Bill graduated from Mansfield Senior High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He retired in 2003 from Hillsborough County in Florida as a truck driver. Always needing something to do, he enjoyed staying active his entire life. Bill was very close to his family and treasured each and every member. On his birthday, he celebrated 24 years of marriage to Anita Cartright Akers.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Cartright Akers of Tampa, FL; four children, Sherri Flager, Tammy Akers, Billie Jo Akers Bland, all of Mansfield, and Tracey Cartright of Tampa, FL; fifteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three siblings, Don (Rosie) Akers of Palm Coast, FL, Linda Akers (Ron) Shelton and Robin Akers Rose, both of Delray Beach, FL; three nephews; and one niece.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by a son, Jason Akers.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2015, in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Mansfield Memorial Park with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Escorting Bill to his final resting place will be pallbearers: Jeffery Barker, Jason Barker, Justin Barker, Caylum Hawk, Dakota Cartright and Ian Cartright.
