

Bobby lived most of his life in Mansfield and attended Simpson Junior High School and graduated from Mansfield Senior High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War from 1959 to 1962. Bobby attended Grace Evangelical Free Church and was a member of the Owls, Eagles, Sons of Herman, Amvets Post #26, and American Legion Post #16. To say he was crazy about golf would be an understatement. He enjoyed playing softball in the church league and bowling in his free time. He loved flowers, cooking and baking.
He is survived by three children, Michelle Ellis of St. Petersburg, FL, Larry (Elisha) Compton and Mark (Karen) Compton, both of Mansfield; ten grandchildren, Amanda, Christina, Bobby, Mandy, Jacob, Alaina, Bailey, Owen, Della, and Kyrstin; one great-great granddaughter, Sophia; two sisters, Maxine (Paul) Haycook and Donna (Jerry) Massey, both of Mansfield; brother, Bill (Loretta) Compton of Mansfield; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, wife, Maria Compton; and sisters, Juanita Kegley and Neva Parker.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service conducted by Pastor Dennis Nezrick will follow at 2:00 p.m. Military honors will be presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
