Burton Kelley

Burton Warren Kelley, 72, a longtime Mansfield resident, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at OSU Medical Center following a sudden illness. Burton was born September 1, 1935 in Mansfield to the late Walter L. and Lailah Aileen Ferguson Kelley. He was a 1953 Madison High School graduate and veteran of the U.S. Army. Burton was a journeyman electrician retiring after 45 years of service. He worked for many of the local contractors, most recently Lake Erie Electric. Burton was a member of the IBEW Local 688, serving many years as the treasurer of the union and also as secretary to the apprentice and training committee. He attended Ashland Brethren in Christ Church. He was an avid collector and attended auctions searching for valuable records. Burton and his son enjoyed restoring 1969 GTO's and went to many car shows together. He was also a member of the GTO Association of America and the Pontiac Oakland Club International. Burton was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Anne Winger Kelley, whom he married October 13, 1962; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael B. and Diana Kelley; one daughter, Stephanie Ann Kelley Shiplett and friend, Stephen Barr; one granddaughter, Casey Diane Kelley; uncle and aunt, Blaine and Barbara Denious of Akron; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roger and Jeanne Winger of Marion, John and Betty Winger of Carroll, D. Charles and Diane Winger of Mansfield, John and Mary Terry of Shelby, and Jim and Martha Eubanks of Wheeling; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2008 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Ashland Brethren in Christ Church conducted by Rev. Keith Tyson. Burial will follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
