
Carl Dinger Sr., 85, of Butler, Ohio died early Saturday morning March 10, 2001 at Lexington Court Care Center following a brief illness. Mr. Dinger was born January 29, 1916 in Mansfield residing in the area all of his life. He retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and attended Grace Episcopal Church. Mr. Dinger graduated from Madison High School. He was a veteran of World War II where he took part in the invasions of Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was wounded at the Anzio Beachhead and received a purple heart. Carl had life long interest in sports and played on a semi-pro basketball team as a young man.
He is survived by his children, Carol and Roger Daugherty of Lexington; Carl and Wendy Dinger of Hartland 4 Corners, Vermont; Thomas and Pat Dinger of Wooster, Ohio; and Deborah and James Rockwell of Bellville, Ohio; his grandchildren, Allison Dinger of Thonotosassa, Florida; Nathan Dinger of St. Augustine, Florida; Phillip, Anna, Sarah and Noah Dinger all of Wooster, Ohio; Brian and Amanda Daugherty of Columbus, Ohio; and Brad Daugherty of Columbus, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Addie Daugherty; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Neil and Margaret Franklin of Girard, Ohio; and one sister-in-law, Janet Stamp of Youngstown, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Magdalane Mage Dinger; his wife of fifty-eight years, Lillian Joan Franklin Dinger; brothers, Martin, Joseph, Michael and Fred; and his sisters, Theresa Kissel, Lena Fischer, Elizabeth Brumm and Katherine Dinger.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Tuesday March 13, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 14, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by Rector Emeritus David Sipes and Father John Jordan of Grace Episcopal Church. Military graveside services will be held in Mansfield Memorial Park conducted by the Joint Veterans Burial Detail Council. Memorial contributions may be made to the Worthington Township Fire Department.
