

Carl E. Gustin, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family Saturday, October 11, 2014 after an extended illness. Carl was born, May 19, 1927 in Ironton, Ohio to Isaac and Romaine Pemberton Gustin, and had one brother, Scotty and two sisters, Betty Chapman and Wanda Williams, all of whom are deceased. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Brigmon Gustin; his son, Carl E. (Barbara) Gustin, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; two daughters, Linda Bruce Gustin of Estero, Florida and Laura Gustin of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Amanda Gustin and Alexandra Gustin, both of Atlanta, Georgia and Matthew Bruce and Adrienne Bruce; and special family friend, Marty Bechtler.
Upon graduating from high school, he immediately joined the US Navy during World War II. He served as boat coxswain aboard the USS Vestal and was honorably discharged in 1949. Married July 22, 1950, Carl and Helen raised their family in Marion, OH. Carl was employed by the Marion Power Shovel Company for 39 years before retiring in 1989 and moving with Helen to Mansfield, OH where they are members of St. Peter's Catholic Church.
At his request, there will be a private service for the immediate family only, and Carl has requested no flowers or memorial contributions. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Carl E. Gustin, Sr.
