

Carl Elmer Thompson, Jr., 67, of Mansfield, OH died October 25, 2013 at home surrounded by family. Carl was born June 18, 1946 in Mansfield, OH to Carl Elmer and Maria (Diehm) Thompson. He loved being outdoors, always hunting, fishing, and hunting for mushrooms. Carl also enjoyed playing darts, participating in several different leagues. He was a true handyman and was constantly working on different projects. Carl was a Vietnam Veteran who received several medals, including a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Purple Heart Medal. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are daughter, Stacy (Joe) Shoup and their children, Nicole, Audrey, and Gracie, of Mansfield; son, Brandon (Kami) Thompson and their children, Caden, Broegan, and Brody, of Butler; and sisters, Marty (Richard) Frazee of TX, Geneva Henry of TX, Sandy Owens of Mansfield, and their families.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tommy Thompson.
A gathering will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Mansfield, OH 44902. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project and Hospice of North Central Ohio.
