A lifelong resident of Ohio, Carol worked with the Board of Education at the Richland County Courthouse in Mansfield, prior to meeting her husband, Jim. Her job actually led to her meeting Jim, who had come in to gather information about bicycle safety to present at his bicycling club.
Initially when she met Jim, Carol didn't know how to ride a bike, so Jim quickly set out to rectify that. Thankfully Carol found she did enjoy bicycles after learning to ride, and they ultimately spent many hours together on their tandem, always welcoming questions about their “bicycle built for two”.
Sharing her husband's enjoyment of the outdoors led them to regularly enjoy hiking, bicycling, and cross-country skiing, both as a couple and then later with their children. As Mansfield residents they could regularly be found enjoying nature at nearby Gorman Nature Center, Malabar Farm, and Mohican State Park regardless of the weather or season.
As a loving mother and wife, Carol supported her family and brought joy to her friends. She enjoyed a good game of bingo and was always up for a hand of cards. Carol also took great pleasure in textile arts such as sewing, crocheting, and latch hooking. An organist and violinist, Carol enjoyed music of all varieties but had a special fondness for the group The Ink Spots.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James Skeen. She is survived by her children, Sharon and Miriam; along with five grandchildren, Maxwell, William, Gianna, Noah, and Andre.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Oak Grove Memorial Park, 4108 US-42 S, Lexington.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Richland County Parks District or the Malabar Farm Foundation to support their ongoing conservation and education efforts.
