Charleen Emilie McCauley, 88, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Kahl home in Davenport, Iowa. She was born June 10, 1936, to the late Charles E. and Georgia E. (Monnie) Moose in Woodsfield, Ohio. Charleen graduated from Ashland High School in 1954. She worked throughout her life as a secretary at various places, eventually retiring from Westfield Companies. Charleen married Dennis McCauley and together they reared two children while living in Mansfield, Ohio.
One of Charleen’s favorite activities was to bowl. Over the years, she participated on several teams where she met some of her dearest friends. Additionally, Charleen belonged to the Susanne Circle of the 1st Methodist Church, the AMVETS, Moose, and Eagle Clubs. Later in life, Charleen had an opportunity to enjoy dancing with her friends. Most Saturday evenings she could be found at Lucky Larrys among other places. She truly had a gift for dancing the night away. Charleen’s diagnosis of Parkinson's disease ended her ability to continue with dancing.
Charleen is survived by her daughter, Michele (Dave) Hemming of Bettendorf, IA; sister, Diana Baker of Ashland, OH; daughter-in-law, Yvonne (Glenn) Arnett of Opelika, AL; grandchildren, Christopher (Hannah) McCauley of Birmingham, AL, Miles (Meredyth) McCauley of Atlanta, GA, Paige (Kristopher) McAuley of Saraland, AL, Michael (Nichole) Hemming of Waverly, OH, and Emily (Alex) Hemming of Des Moines, IA; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth “Birdie” McCauley, Claire McCauley, Nora McCauley, Desmond McAuley,
Finley McAuley, Shepherd McAuley, Marshall Hemming, Paisley Hemming, Madeline Hemming, and Jaxon Childers-Hemming; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael D. McCauley, daughter, Denise McCauley; and sister, Patricia Loraine Moose.
Family and friends will gather at 98 South Diamond Street, Mansfield on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, from
10:00 AM until 11:00 AM for visitation. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Lorry Mabiala, will follow. Charleen will be laid to rest at Loudonville Cemetery in Loudonville, OH. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Kahl Home in Davenport, Iowa, and Genesis VNA Hospice Care for the exceptional care and compassion received.
