

Charles R. Arnold, 94, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Mifflin Care Center. Born February 8, 1921 in Bluffton, he was the son of Edward and Martha (McHenry) Arnold. Charles served in the Army from 1942 to 1945 with the 735th battalion, spending most of his time in London, England. He married Elizabeth (Bender) Scholler Izer Arnold on June 14, 1997. Charles held several jobs over the years, including Page Dairy, Peabody Barnes, Schmidt Security, and working as a school bus driver. He enjoyed volunteering and did so with the American Red Cross and also working the local polls at election time. In his free time, Charles loved gardening, woodworking, going on walks, and watching the deer. He was a member of McElroy Road Church of Christ, where he was active as Elder, greeter, and leader. Charles was an active man and truly enjoyed life until he became ill.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Arnold; daughters, Pam (Boyd) Alig of Wake Forest, NC, Kathleen Arnold of Mansfield, Valerie (Dwayne) Osborne of Mansfield, and Diana Hostetler of Mansfield; son, Tim Arnold of Danville, OH; step-sons, Charles (Donna) Scholler of Boise, ID, David (Jeri) Scholler of Ashland, Robert (Carol) Izer of Orange, TX, and Emmett (Ruth) Izer of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Deacon Michael (Danae) Alig, Jennifer (Guy) Klein, Teresa (Laurence) Somerville, Jon (Anna) Finley, Katrina (Chuck) Deskin, Karrie (Carl) Bowman, Anita (John) Hamilton, Lora (Rodney) Clark, Dawn Osborne, Danielle Osborne, Aaron (Ashley) Arnold, Ashley Arnold, and Meghan Arnold; step-grandchildren, Karie Walters-Boise, Mike Scholler, Dr. Kimberly (Mike) Logli, Jim (Gina) Izer, and Andrea Mae (Brian) Gray; twenty three great-grandchildren; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine, who died January 14, 1997; daughter, Rebecca Frye; and brothers and their wives, Clarence (Mary Ann) Arnold and Richard (Alma) Arnold.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. conducted by Pastor Dean Jackson. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
