

Born August 9, 1922 in Madison, GA he was the son of Albert and Carrie (Thomas) Gordon. A Mansfield resident for the past 56 years, he was Elder of the Shiloh Full Gospel Baptist Church where he was very active in many church functions. A faithful member of the church Bible Study until his illness, he spoke highly of Bishop Morris and enjoyed working with him. Elder Gordon retired from Borg Warner (formerly known as Humphrey) after 27 years of service. He then worked for 10 years at the Ohio State Reformatory before he completely retired. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II, and received the American Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Philippine Liberation Service Medal.
Charlie leaves to cherish his memory four sons, Freddie (MaryAnn), Charles, Jr. and Ernest all of Mansfield, and Jimmie of Noblesville, Indiana; ten grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He had a special love for Patrice Smith, Angie Davis and Marie Griffin. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice; four sisters; two brothers; and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Shiloh Full Gospel Baptist Church, 130 E. 2nd Street, Mansfield, OH 44902, conducted by Bishop William Morris, Jr. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.
