
Dana Dain 'Shorty' Kovach, 53, of Mansfield died Thursday morning, September 13, 2001 at Mifflin Care Center after a long illness. He was born May 13, 1948, in Mansfield to Andrew and Gernette Sumption Kovach. Shorty was retired from Conrail where he worked as a welder. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include a son, Eric Kovach of Lexington; two daughters, Rebecca Naranjo and Shanna Cooley both of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren, Danielle Steagall, Brandon and Bradley Anderson; seven sisters, Mary Baum of Conn., Judy Frederick of N. Carolina, LaRay Kovach, Patti Jo Wallace, Andrea Hartman, Carol Huvler and Karen Shaum, all of Mansfield; a brother, David Scott of Columbus; his mother, Gernette Scott; his ex-wife, Janet Kovach of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews. His father, Andrew Kovach, his step-mother, Opal Kovach, his step-father, A. Frank Scott, and his brother, Andrew Louis Kovach preceded him in death.
There will be no calling hours held at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Military graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Mansfield Cemetery conducted by Rev. Christopher Thomas.
