David McVicker

David S. McVicker, 77, of Mansfield, died Thursday, December 17, 2009 at MedCentral Mansfield with his wife and children by his side. Born March 25, 1932, in Noble County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Edward L. and Edith L. Starr McVicker. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1954 and entered the U.S. Air Force from ROTC. David served as a jet pilot instructor from 1954 – 1959. Upon leaving the Air Force as captain, he returned to OSU to earn certification for teaching vocational agriculture. He found a position with Union School; later known as Crestview High School. He earned a masters degree from OSU in 1965. David served Crestview as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. He moved on to become assistant superintendent with Mansfield City Schools and Richland County Schools. David would then retire in 1987 as superintendent of Richland County Schools. David was a life member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, Men's Garden Club, Friends of Wright-Patterson, Buckeye Association of School Administrators, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Richland County Retired Teachers, and the American Legion.

David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elsie Shugert McVicker; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Tim Nesbitt of Mansfield and their son, Tom; son and daughter-in-law, Curt and Jennifer Cardwell McVicker of Mansfield and their daughter, Megan; sister and brother; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services with military honors were conducted in Mansfield Memorial Park. At the wishes of David and his family, memorial contributions may be made to The David S.
