Donald Reed

Donald Leroy Reed, 90, of Ashland, died Wednesday, April 09, 2008, at Hospice House in Ashland. Born March 7, 1918, in Mansfield, he was the son of Sherman and Pearl Belle Franks Reed. Donald was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He retired from Westinghouse and was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Mifflin. Donald volunteered at the Council on Aging and enjoyed carpentry work, auctions and collecting records and also record and tape players.

Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Kay Garry Hicks of Alaska and Beverly J. Shivers of Ashland; ten grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Martin of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma Arlene Reed; a daughter, Carol Ann Long; a granddaughter, Kathrine Mary; three sisters and seven brothers.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008, at St. Michael's Lutheran Church conducted by Pastor Alan Smearsoll. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park with full military services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
