

Dorothy M. Burns, 91, of Mansfield, died September 19, 2014. Born May 16, 1923 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of George and Emily (Gygax) Gump. Dorothy graduated from Mansfield Senior High School and went on to work for Stadium School as the secretary and later, Richland County Jobs and Family Services, where she retired. An independent, loving lady, Dorothy was very generous with her time. She loved animals and raised Dachshunds. In her free time, Dorothy loved shopping and seeing her girlfriends.
Surviving are her sons, Gary Michael (Melissa) Burns, Jeff (Joann) Burns, and Scott Burns, all of Mansfield; grandchildren, Kim (Rod) Earick of Lexington, Michael (Heather) Burns of Wooster, Christopher (Beth) Burns of Mansfield, and Tami Burns of Mansfield; two step-grandchildren, Tom (Robin) Hager and Lori Hager, both of Mansfield; eleven great-grandchildren; and nieces, Cindy Westfield and Marcia Martin, both of FL.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Burns; sister, Patricia Westfield; daughter-in-law, Sue Burns; and niece, Brenda Westfield-Morson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario, conducted by Rev. David Root. Family and friends are invited to visit one hour prior to the service, from 9-10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richland County Humane Society, 3025 Park Avenue West, Ontario, Ohio 44906.
