

Dorothy A. Phillips, 84, of Nova died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Samaritan Regional Health Systems after a lengthy illness. Born February 7, 1928 in Filmore, KY, she was the daughter of Matthew and Ada (Pence) Crawford. An intellectual woman, Dorothy was a 1947 graduate of Nova High School and a 1951 graduate of Ashland College with a major in Latin. She went on to be a high school teacher in Brunswick and later was a junior high teacher for Ruggles Troy. Dorothy attended Savannah United Methodist Church and enjoyed being a part of the Saturday Night Supper Club. She was a collector of postcards and was a part of the Johnny Appleseed Postcard Club. Dorothy liked doing crafts including knitting, sewing, and painting. A quiet yet loving woman, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Addison Phillips of Nova whom she attended both high school and college with; daughters, Tracy (Rodney) Estep of Nova and Penny (Bruce) Mapes of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Logan (Jessi) Estep of Lodi, Cameron Estep of Nova, Lindsay Mapes and Brendan Mapes of Mt. Vernon; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Crawford and infant daughter, Melanie Phillips.
Friends may call Friday, June 29, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Ave., Ashland. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Savannah United Methodist Church, 10 W. Main St., Savannah. The service will be conducted by Pastor Adam Davis and Pastor Paul Bennett. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Nova Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Savannah United Methodist Church.
