Elizabeth Webel, age 100, quietly passed away February 26, 2015. Knowing that God who paints the sunset called Elizabeth to dwell with him "Beyond the Sunset", entering into eternity at journey's end with her Savior and Lord.
Elizabeth was born November 3, 1914 to Phillip and Maria (Wilging) Neider in Crvenka, Yugoslavia. She married George Webel in 1935. Becoming a widow after seven years of marriage, her life's challenges were now before her with two young boys.
After WWII, the ethnic cleansing of all the German citizens in town began by the Serbian nationals, confiscating all possessions, house, and farm. In 1946, having lost all, plans were made to escape, knowing the penalty of death if caught. Her elderly father, sister, two boys, and guide, were heading toward Hungary. Nearing the border, the Serb soldiers were waiting to capture her family. With God's Divine protection, all were spared from the firing squad. Joining her mother in Hungary, the journey continued, having to pass undetected through the Russian zone in Austria, finally arriving at Linz. In November 1949, after a long voyage, America became her new home.
Our "Oma" as she was affectionately known by all family and friends, will be sadly missed for her love and kindness. Retiring from Therm-O-Disc, she was a devoted member of the Apostolic Christian Church.
Elizabeth is survived by her sons, Alfred (Jackie) and Stan (Kala); grandchildren, Lisette (Walter) Johnson, Curtis (Michelle) Webel, and Denise (Mike) Brauchler; great-grandchildren, Evan, Jordan, Taylor, Lauren, and Lindsey; and her youngest sister, Christine Diener.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Bechtler, Mary Bauer, Katie Bosiok and brothers, Adam, Phillip, and Heinrich Neider.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., conducted by Marc Contrascere and Erwin Webel. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
