Ellen McDonald

Ellen Louise McDonald, 60, of Mansfield, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011. Born October 28, 1950 in Fostoria, Ohio, Ellen lived in Columbia, SC, Stronach, PA, Cooperstown, PA and Erie, PA before settling in Mansfield, OH. Ellen was the daughter of Elizabeth Piotter and the late Joseph Piotter. She is survived by her loving husband, Joe McDonald, sons, Joe (Tracy) McDonald, Stephen (Jamie) McDonald and Jeremy (Miranda) McDonald; five grandchildren, Tessa, Sydney, Makenzie, Gianna and Sawyer; six sisters, JoAnn (Russ) Rhodes, Pam Cothran, Beverly Piotter, Rebecca (Don) Thome, Judy (Tim) Karle and Nancy (Jeff) Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

After graduating high school, she became a church camp counselor in upstate New York where she met her husband. Christianity was always an important part of her life. She was active in the church and church activities, most recently at the Westwood Alliance Church.

Ellen was a devoted mother and homemaker who enjoyed baking and decorating specialty cakes for family occasions, creative storytelling and writing, sewing, nature photography, reading, puzzles and word games. Ellen was a unique, loving and courageous individual who will be truly missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Joyce, Heather and all the nursing staff at MedCentral ICU.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the Westwood Alliance Church, 396 Willowood Drive East, Mansfield, OH 44906 conducted by Pastor Zach Reeves. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Ellen Louise McDonald.
